Dam Safety 2017-10-04T06:02:38+00:00

Having successfully worked on many dams, GEOTILL is fully knowledgeable of dam safety regulations, codes, policies, and guidelines published and administered by the federal government, including: Department of the Interior guidelines; Bureau of Reclamation policies and procedures; and Federal Emergency Management Agency standards and procedures for safety and risk management.

Out team have worked extensively with engineering guidelines published by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as well as the rules and regulations governing dredge/fill permits under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. This includes extensive experience with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and water quality agencies.

Virtually all of GEOTILL’s dam safety projects involve field investigations; primarily geologic reconnaissance, geotechnical explorations and laboratory testing, watershed reconnaissance, and downstream channel evaluations. We have developed proven methods for economically obtaining the data needed to support evaluations of dam safety and designs for new dams and dam improvements. Our geologists and geotechnical engineers are adept at working with drillers and laboratories to obtain soil and rock samples and perform appropriate in-situ and laboratory tests to establish databases for evaluation and design of dam safety improvements. We also are very skilled at field reconnaissance for geologic baselines and locating sources of borrow materials for construction; including fill materials, filter and drainage materials, and aggregates for conventional concrete, RCC, and soil cement.
